Her majesty the Super Moon

After the last February’s Super Moon, when our satellite had shown itself in all its beauty, a few months later Nature gave us this wonderful show again. This time, the Super Moon recorded its phase of maximum size, according to the calculations of the astronomers, a few hours after the arrival of spring. This is a coincidence that did not occur since 2000 and will not be repeated before 2030.
In order to admire in the best way possible the Moon in a its giant version, is recommended to do it far from the artificial lights and from the smog of the urban centers. The Maldives, undoubtedly, offer an excellent sight point. Not only at night time, when the Maldivian sky is illuminated by nothing but the celestial stars themselves, but also at the dawn of the day, just as in the case of the Super Moon of few days ago.
Why this year the equinox was not recorded on March 21st, a date that we have always used to think of as the one that marks the arrival of spring? The answer is to find oneself in the need to better approximate the duration of the astronomical year due to the drift of the Gregorian calendar. For this reason, it is normal to have slips for astronomical events that do not always occur on the same date.
